A few weeks ago i picked up a new boot from the Johnston & Murphy 1850 collection. I wasnt sure what to expect as my experience with J&M in the past has been very minimal. But i’m happy to say, after a few wears, a couple spilt drinks & lots of stepping on chewing gum - they’re holding up great. I still don’t consider myself a chelsea boot guy, but they certainly offer a nice alternative to my usual shoe.

It’s always tough to answer questions like this without knowing what price range you’re looking into, so i’ll give you a few options:
The Tapered Wallet:
Florsheim Berkley - $100
While i’ve never owned the Berkley its about as simple as simple plain leather loafers get. Florsheim’s been doing this for 120 years - they keep it clean and classic.
The Shivering Piggy Bank:
Allen Edmond Kenwood - $225
American made from a brand with some serious heritage and solid street cred. Allen Edmonds work - this shoe works.
The “I’ll eat pb&j for a week”:

designed in chicago and made in maine this is without a doubt a quality item. order them, wear them, get complimented on them, lose them under the couch for a week, find them, wear them. repeat.

dressing from the shoes up: part 1
i don’t normally try the blazer & shorts thing, in fact i don’t often do the shorts thing at all (though you could never tell with legs so ‘jersey bronzed’), but i wanted to stretch myself after i received these unique Florsheims.
I had been a little on the fence about the noticeable metal buckle but a few seconds after pulling them from the box i knew they’d become one of my favorite pairs. just after the break in process. that came a bit quicker than expected because the process was about 35 seconds. soft suede on the upper and a really nice padded foot with light weight rubber sole. a sleek sharp & comfortable warm weather and transitional loafer.
