denim pockets.

I always like to have an original living space, its nice to wake up in something creative. I was looking for something interesting to counteract my lack of closer space, this seemed to make sense. i really like the result now i just have to pick up a couple more racks.

dressing from the shoes up: part II

party up top, business down low.

theres a certain appeal to the jeans & t shirt look. its easy, its comfortable and its - well it’s easy and comfortable. the simplicity and casual vibe of this look leave a surprising amount of room for anything and everything else.

when you cross a guy whose taking this route (assuming it all fits), theres not much hesitation. your eyes don’t spend time inspecting the seams of the t shirt or edge of the denim. but this look caters to the accessories - in my case some nice new shoes & a denim wrist tie.

this is my second pair of Florsheim Veblens and i know they can really take a beating, so i’m wasting no time this summer doing just that. i opted for a slightly different color this time around because i’ve been wanting to try out the versatility of gray shoes.

don’t over complicated, don’t over analyze, don’t over utilize.

the long awaited baldwin reed.

i bought these back in mid march, judging from the color i assumed they were the henley fit - something i knew the measurements of. however i mistakenly got the baldwin reed. after a few trips back to the baldwin workshop for some tapering and hemming these’s reeds are perfect. really comfortable, faded in the natural spots and boast just the right amount of detail.

a big thanks to rob at WHARF and the guys who work hard over at the baldwin workshop.

two shirts & a denim jacket with tapered pants and bandana scraps accompanied by fancy shoes and garnished with sunlight.

i’ve really taken a liking to this denim jacket i picked up a few months ago on some crazy levi’s sale. (70% off, come on…)

with all this nonsensical weather we’ve been having this jackets found itself hanging out on my shoulders for a week straight. it’s a nice fit and a perfect layering piece. i was hesitant after my purchase but despite it’s color being identical to most of my pants - it challenges me to distract and separate. i added the bandana scraps as i do with most of my jackets but i think here, it works.

your style isn’t for everyone, it wont be. but it’s yours, so create it and fix it and attempt it and occasionally fail. but have fun. laugh at yourself - sometimes i look fuckin’ ridiculous.

about a year ago, i made one of my first “major” textile purchases. after a few months of interest/research and a on the solid recommendation of Ryan Plett over at YHBTI, i found myself reading an order confirmation email from the outbox of Rogue Territory.

i had a good idea of exactly what i wanted to extract from these RT Stantons so a few days prior contacted Rogue Territory about my measurement quandaries - we decided on the correct inseam for hemming and a few days later i was feverishly ripping a priority mail package to shreds. slim, stiff and crisp - for weeks everything i owned caught a blue hue and i dug it. eventually my entire wardrobe was a collaboration with “RT indigo dye” - it was great.

since, i’ve ordered two additional pairs (the RK ISC & black stanton) and i can state with certainty that i’ll be supporting Rogue Territory until i struggle to dress myself. the fit is perfect, the material is quality and the craftsmanship is a brutal reminder that (almost) any other pair of denim in your closet should be donated. the customer service i’ve received from personally from @rogueterritory has always been ridiculously seamless, it’s a great feeling actually knowing who created something i wear everyday.

Rogue Territory is a California based company under the sole direction of NJ raised denim entranced Karl Thoennessen, since 2008 RT has been pumping ‘pant’s shelter’ one quality piece at a time. I shot him a few questions a couple days ago and he gave us a chance to look inside the brand:

what was or is your favorite thing to do as a kid? where did you grow up?
I was a really active kid growing up.  The youngest of 4 and 2 older brothers to keep up with.  I grew up in Chatham, New Jersey. I was a pretty avid swimmer and soccer player from a very early age, both sports I did pretty much year round starting in early junior high till senior year of High School.  I picked up skateboarding and snowboarding around 5th grade and am still riding (skating) today (not as much as I would like though) I loved to draw, doodle, etc. Girls were always on my mind…fairly typical childhood I would say.
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — how’d you get into the denim goods business? and what was your biggest “god damnit…” moment in the beginning steps?

One day I said ‘god dammit’ denim is the shit, I really think I can get down with this, and here I am!  There were a lot of good ‘god dammit’ moments and trying ‘god dammit’ moments when I was figuring out what I wanted to do, but at the end of the day there really aren’t any bad ‘god dammit’ moments just opportunities to learn from them ‘god dammit’

what’s music would a thief find on RGt’s iPhone? fistpump or reggae - whats your jam?
Country, folk, anything with a good chorus…I love a good chorus.  been listening to new Beirut, waiting for new Andrew Bird to drop so listening to old Andrew Bird in the meantime.  Small Black. Nick Drake. Townes Van Zandt.  etc.

where’s the farthest you’ve shipped a pair of pants?
New Zealand?  is that further than Japan or Singapore?

what are you doing on sunday?
This Sunday?  Moving!  New studio.  New House.  New Yard.  New life.
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — recently i’ve been noticing the addition of a few sharp looking things on the site (handkerchiefs, belts, shirts etc.) how has the transition been into the world of multiple products? and should we expect Sanforized Japanese Denim socks anytime soon?
I love to make shit, and I love to make it when I think of it.  I try not to think too much about the transition.  Socks, sure.  Probably not in denim though.

Stantons 5 months.  RGt plaid button up sample from a year ago.  New natural selvedge canvas chore coat prototype.  Rough Roy Aldens for Context.

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —  how many pants did you ruin until you realized a “pen pocket” made sense?
Didn’t ruin any.  It was a product of necessity.  I was drafting so many patterns, and I was always putting my pencil down and forgetting where I put it so I decided to make a pocket for it so I would always know where it was.
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —  best food/favorite beer?
this is the most difficult question of all!!!  I’ll eat just about anything, but if I have to pick one type of food that I crave more then any other at this moment in my life it would have to be Hong Kong style Chinese food (this includes dim sum or yum cha)
beer.  I’ve been really enjoying Anchor Steam’s Humming Ale lately.
